Crepuscular Beams
Crepuscular beams (sometimes called "God rays") are simply the result of light scattering in a volume. When this light is isolated into beams (for example, the few rays of sunlight that escape through a forest canopy) the contrast between the parts of the volume that scatter light and the rest of the volume leads to a striking effect.
